Honey House

On the island of St. John Virgin Islands, there are few vacation homes as dramatically beautiful as Maison Miele. This three bedroom, 3 bath masonry and stone home was designed by well-known architect Glen Speer to complement the spectacular and very private waterfront setting in Coral Bay, St. John.

Composed of two buildings separated by terraces and set beside an 8 x 30 foot pool, surrounded by tropical plantings and masses of bouganvillea, this Virgin Island rental villa, perches just 75 feet above that clear blue Caribbean Sea. Pelicans fly by at eye level, and frigate birds soar the thermals.
Salt Pond, one of St. John National Park's most beautiful sandy beaches, is a mere mile away, but you may not want to leave your villa. There is a deep level of relaxation reached when floating in the pool, gazing out at the nearby islands and watching hummingbirds dart among the flowers that makes it difficult to work up any desire to go anywhere. You hear almost nothing but the surf, the trade winds rustling the palms, and perhaps your favorite cd on the stereo.

Maison Miele entry is a big porch with seating for reading and outdoor dining.

Passing through the signature entryway and sitting in the great room of the main house is like being on the bridge of a ship. You are surrounded by walls of windows that allow the constant trade winds to cool the house. As you sit on the hand-painted Sloop Jones sofa cushions that echo the shifting colors of the water below, you look to Ram's Head on your right, ahead to the east end of St. John and the US Virgin Islands of Leduck and Flanigan, and beyond to the British Virgin Islands. Sailboat and motorboats passing to and fro complete the picture. Rainbows are not uncommon-watch for "doubles".
The kitchen has water views on three sides. If you can tear yourself away from gazing out, you'll find everything from lobster pots to blenders to Subzero fridge and freezer (one each!).
The counters are spacious. There is plenty of room to work, and the corian counters and mahogany cabinets make it a pretty place to slice and dice. Then again, you are on vacation, and while secluded, Maison Miele is not isolated. If what you most like for dinner is reservations, Coral Bay restaurants (and shops) are only minutes away.

Great Views
The views don't stop in the living room. There are two bedrooms at opposite ends of the house, (one with a king bed, one prepared for you either as two twins or as a king), each with full bath. Both have stunning views of sea, sky, and islands.

For those of you who simply can't leave it all behind there is an office off the great room with a fax/telephone. This room also has a futon that is a quiet space to read, or that opens to a double bed for an extra person.
View from the cottage.
The spacious cottage is a home onto itself, with a kitchen, full bath, and king size bed. It has its own deck, and views towards Ram's Head, the British Islands, and St. Croix.
In order to ensure privacy, the cottage is never rented separately from the main building. The configuration of the houses makes this St. John rental villa perfect for two or three couples, or for one or two families with children, as two additional roll away beds can be added in the little cottage. And since it is all on one level, it is a perfect choice for people on crutches or in a wheelchair.
With the constant trade winds, air conditioning is really not necessary at Maison Miele, but for those who can't do without, the little cottage has it.

So, come to Maison Miele. Stretch out on the hammock in the garden, laze on a chaise in the sun with a cold one, fire up the propane bbq at the end of the day. When the sun sets, without other homes nearby, the night stars shine clearly. Jasmine, night-blooming lilies and gardenias scent the evening air. If relaxation, privacy, and beauty is what you seek, Maison Miele may be just the place for you.

Testimonial
"When we left last year I was certain we could never recreate such a fantastic week.
It's easier to leave this time because I know we'll be back---and I know it will be perfect.
Thanks for everything!"
